The easiest thing anyone can do to lose weight is stop drinking alcohol.
Sadly, most people are utterly unwilling to give up, or massively reduce alcohol consumption. In fact, if I mattered more, I might get cancelled for suggesting such a thing.
Why is truthful, real fitness advice viewed in a more negative light than alcohol consumption?
What's the cultural obsession with alcohol? It does absolutely nothing positive for us.
Even the momentary feel-good feelings are short lived and shoot up your cortisol levels – in an unhealthy way – as soon as the next day.
It's one of the worst things for your mental health.
It also wreaks havoc on your physical fitness and your body composition.
It literally combats your body's ability to build muscle, lose fat, and process fats and carbohydrates.
Here's a couple articles and studies that touch on that topic in more detail:
People will spend money on all sorts of things to lose weight, when possibly the thing that will have the biggest impact would be to save money and ditch the alcohol.
I know all your favorite influencers say it's fine to booze it up and it's just calories in versus calories out. But it's not that simple. Alcohol is catabolic and toxic. Influencers tell you what you want to hear so that you'll (a) buy their stuff and (b) follow them and share their stuff so they can get famous. Stop listening to silly influencers. Most of them haven't hit puberty yet anyway and can get away with eating just about anything their mom feeds them and be fine.
I'm not saying you should never drink a drop again (though, some people go that route and speak wonders of such a lifestyle change). But I DO recommend greatly reducing your intake, particularly if you're struggling with your body composition. Drink water instead. Lift weights for 30 minutes or go for a 30 minute walk instead of drinking.
If you want to have a couple drinks on a Friday OR Saturday night (never both), then feel free. But make sure you're hitting those weights and walking those steps throughout the week.
I can guarantee that if you do this for a year, your body composition will improve dramatically.
