Are Kettlebell Swings Good for Building Glutes?

Updated: Jul 24

Yes. They don't call it, "kettle-booty" for nothing.

But seriously, kettlebell swings can be a great addition to your workout program if building glutes is a goal of yours.

People sometimes bash swings as not good for glutes but these people usually have never swung a kettlebell with proper form.

It's an explosive hinge. Hinges build glutes. Explosive movement recruits lots of fast twitch muscle fibers in big muscle groups. The glutes are loaded with fast twitch muscle fibers and they are the largest muscle group in the entire body!

You should feel an intense cramping (not crapping. If you get the trots from kettlebell swinging, you're doing it wrong, partner) sensation in the glutes each rep.

But don't do kettlebell swings, alone, as your one-stop-shop for big booty glory.

Combine kettlebell swings with squats, lunges (or Bulgarian split squats or step ups), and a Romanian deadlift variation for optimal lower body gains and a powerful rear end.

The glutes respond well to powerful (fast, explosive) movements WHEN also combined with the slower, high tension exercises like those mentioned above.
