Yet Again, Environment Encourages Exercise

I keep an extra pair of pushup handles next to my TV.

Now, I don't require pushup handles to do pushups, and I often sprinkle in pushups or burpees throughout the day, sans-handles (handles-free).

But, you better believe that every time I watch TV I see those slick, black, beautiful PVC handles right there, staring back at me. And that visual flicks a switch in my brain that makes me think, "oh? Maybe I should knock out some pushups while I'm just sitting here....yes, why wouldn't I take advantage of such low hanging strength and muscle building fruit?!" And then I get on the floor and do a handful of pushups, which gives me a mild upper body pump, which in turn, makes me feel good. I like feeling good. You might, also.

Environment matters, friends.

Get some simple home gym equipment. Sprinkle equipment around the house in places where you'll see it frequently. This will encourage you to exercise more while also eliminating the friction that comes from relying on a gym however many miles away to do your exercising.

Make exercise a lifestyle that seamlessly fits into your life rather than forcing your life to fit in around an exercise schedule reliant on location and business hours of operation.

Even if you prefer training at a specific gym a few days per week, I think everyone should still have some collection of simple home gym equipment for extra, daily training or days when getting to the gym seem improbable. Even if it's just quick exercise snacks throughout the day in your own home.

That equipment could be as simple as an exercise mat that you roll out on the ground during commercials, between episodes, or before meals to knock out pushups, core work, bodyweight squats or lunges, hip thrusts or glute bridges, burpees, etc. But be sure that exercise mat is in a specific place in the house that you'll see it and be reminded to move regularly.

What you surround yourself with can either encourage or discourage a regular habit of exercise.
