Movin' n' Groovin' Active Rest Session

12/08/2024 Training Log: Quick and Easy Active Rest session

Movin' n' Groovin'

Here's a quick 60 second video summary: https://youtube.com/shorts/Vb8aLFTL8Fw?si=kJAY67MZBwsYL7wU

Did some yard work and then the sun came out just in time for my active rest movement practice.

I just did an easy 15 minute circuit rotating through:

Turkish getups

Kettlebell swings

Persian Meel swinging

I really need to use the Persian Meels and Indian clubs more often on my active rest days. Every time I do these exercises I feel great. But I don't do it nearly enough.

It usually takes me a few rounds to really unlock my tight rotator cuff muscles and shoulders, but it's a good way to improve range of motion, strength, and increase blood flow to those areas.

Clubs, maces, and Persian Meels are also incredible for grip and forearm strength, particularly when stringing together lots of reps. I get a nice little forearm pump from this stuff.

They're also just good old fashioned fun.

I'm going to try to use my clubs, maces, and Meels more frequently – as part of every active rest day. Hold me to it.

Swings are always a good exercise and, if you manage volume and intensity appropriately, you can easily find a way to do some kettlebell swinging every day.

Heavy and high volume swings on lifting days.

Lighter/easier variations and lower volumes on rest days.

Most of you already know my stance on kettlebell swings, but in case you don't – I think swings are most excellent.
