Go Outside

Spend more time outside!

Take your normal, day-to-day — especially, social — activities and make an effort to do them while outside.

It seems silly, but being outdoors makes even the most mundane activities more fulfilling and exciting.

When I'm working remotely (which I do at least a couple hours per day since opening up more online training slots), I take the laptop outside and set up on my back patio.

When I'm on the phone with clients for our weekly check-in calls, I'm outside, usually walking around my yard.

I often take my weights and my workouts out on the back patio for my training. I even bought and set up a separate pullup bar station out there to make it even easier to encourage outdoor training. It's easy to bring out some kettlebells and dumbbells. But dragging my half rack/pullup bar out back was less convenient. That's no longer an issue now that I've got the second pullup bar permanently stationed there.

If it's not raining, I like to do my 3 minute morning recharge routine outside. For those that don't know, my 3 minute morning recharge routine is some variation of:

10 Hindu squats

10 pushups

10 hip thrusts or glute bridges

10 reps of some core exercise

If the weather is nice and the gym I'm working at has accessibility to outside, I'll take my clients outside for their session. When I lived in Boise (April 2021-late April 2026), I'd open up the back Fire Exit door, haul out some kettlebells or dumbbells, and have my clients train on the side walk. We called it: "The Sidewalk Gym," because, obviously, we're original. Good times were had.

Again, it seems goofy, but, taking exercise routines outside – exchanging the suffocating gym walls and LED lights for open air and sunshine – adds an element of play and fun.

Read outside.

Eat outside.

Sit in a circle and chat outside.

And for heaven's sake, do your cardio OUTSIDE!

Getting outside more is the most simple way to "romanticize" your life. It supercharges every activity. And it's probably good for your mood, health, and even hormones.

That's enough on this topic, for now.

Thanks for reading!
