The Energy Fix

2 min read

It sounds counterproductive, but if you're tired and low on energy, you NEED to MOVE!

Exercise.

Walk.

Run.

Lift weights.

Do some squats, lunges, glute bridges, kettlebell swings, pushups, overhead press, pullups, rows – pick 1-6 of those –with or without weight.

Movement GIVES energy.

Quality nutrition also supports energy. Low quality nutrition leads to low energy, bad mood, bad health, and poor body composition. Prioritize good, healthy food habits. High protein. Lots of fruits and veggies. Keep added sugar intake low (don't fret carbs and natural sugars, though).

We talk about SAID (specific adaptations to Imposed Demands) in fitness. Generally, in regard to strength vs hypertrophy vs power vs endurance training adaptations. But the SAID principle also applies to sedentary vs active lifestyles.

If you sit around, your body adapts to your sedentary lifestyle and down-regulates energy (because you've quietly told your body you don't need energy). This negatively effects every area of life.

Meanwhile, a physically active lifestyle communicates to your body that you need energy – in excess, even – to handle the demands and activities of your day to day life. This is also why active people that prioritize a balanced fitness routine, burn more calories, lose body fat, and build muscle.

Get up and move! You were made to be fit, active, healthy, and athletic. Stop disrespecting your body and your Creator.

It may be uncomfortable in the short term, but building a habit of daily exercise (like lifting 3-5 days per week + cardio and short core workouts the other 2-4 days per week) increases your energy levels. But you've got to start giving your body a reason to be energetic!

We all get only one body. It is responsible for carrying us through life. Prioritize it and take care of it.

Maintaining a fit, active, healthy lifestyle is a non-negotiable responsibility.
